How essential to every lady’s wardrobe are the footwear! While today we romp about in every sort of convention for foot, in the early 1800s. England, the choices were vastly more limited. Slippers were ill-suited to extensive walking but served well for the pampered lifestyle of the haunt ton, the gentry, or the wealthy cit.

I am sure even some country peasants owned at least one pair but however humble. Call me a muffin head if you like, but I was quite shocked to discover that the slippers were often fashioned of colored leather. I guess, somehow I doubted their ability to make such beautifully colored leather in that era.

In the olden days, some slippers were made from silk, but what do we see today?, a variety of slippers made from a  number of available fabrics like sturdy cottons or satins, leather, plastic, wood, cloth and many more. They are crafted by skilled weavers, which are long life, comfortable to wear and non-skid.

The emergence of technology has led to the creation of different designs, shapes, colorful and more attractive slippers. They enhance the attractiveness of the wearer’s foot and are ideal to wear on formal and informal purpose.

Ladies of today puts on slippers to match any attire they put on. It will interest you to know that, they even put a slipper in their bags even when they are in heel. This is because, at a point in time, they will feel tired and are likely to change. WEDGE

                                                                          WEDGE

                                       COLLECTION OF WEDGES

Wedge a type of platform shoe, have been around since 1930s. The first wedges didn’t have a distinct heel and had cellophane. Straps and very different from cheap pumps for women. The wedge heel is thick and one piece with the sole, whereas high-heeled shoes have a separate heel. It height ranges from a slight raise in the heel to several inches.

Wedge shoes were created by an Italian designer called Salvatore Ferragamo. He designed the orthopedic wedge in 1935 and the wedge heel in 1936. In doing this, he used cork and wood because of a leather and rubber shortage in the United State during World War II. This was because leather and rubber were needed for the war effort. And again, cork was more popular than wood because it was lighter, sturdy and durable
.
The fashion of the time called for height and reached up to 5 inches during this period. Wedges resurfaced again in the 1970s, and this time the designs were more colorful and outrageous. One design, even allowed for a gold fish to live in the heel. In 1990, it came back in style, in a form of wedge platform sneakers. These were usually worn by celebrities like British pop band and the Spice Girls.

Wedge appeared again in the summer 2006. This time, heels made of cork wrapped in rope were one style option. Both straps and ankle wraps were choices to secure wedges to feet. Flip-flop wedges with a small heel combine the two popular styles. They come in different shapes, colors and sizes. You would be surprise and marveled at the way wedge popularity fluctuates compared to other footwear in the market. This is due to the fact that, women of this 21st century demand more and purchase more.

Day in, day out, hundreds of new wedge designs comes out depending on trend creation. Now let us pause and ask ourselves this question. Why on earth at all are ladies fond of this kind of footwear? Well, join me here and let’s see why. Most ladies wear wedge to make their legs look longer, to make their body as thinner and to improve their posture. Again, it offers more support compared to stilettos and also increase their height, which makes them look smart in whatever they are wearing on top of the wedge. More often than not, balance is easier on a wedge, it reduces the number of falls that accompany high-heels and lastly offer more support reducing foot and ankle problems. Ladies will forever be ladies.
